The Cowgate Dental Surgery offers its professional services to anyone, regardless if you are eligible for NHS treatments or pay privately.
“We really wanted to take the focus off price and make our service affordable to everyone without compromising on quality” explains Principal Dentist, Andrew Gutenmacher.
“Also, our team are proud to bring some of the latest treatments such as teeth whitening, veneers, etc, to Cowgate. It’s not just for celebrities!”
Andrew studied dentistry at Kaunsas Medical University in Lithuania and graduated in 2003. In 2009, he moved to the UK and joined Visioncall Dental Practice (later to become Cowgate Dental Practice) that same year. He’s been the principal dentist in the practice since then, and is committed to serving his patients – he offers both private and NHS treatments. Andrew became a dentist after – like many of us – being scared of the dentist as a young boy. That experience made him determined to become a dentist so he could make dentistry a better experience for patients rather than something to fear. When Andrew isn’t busy in the practice he enjoys target rifle shooting. In 2014, as part of the county team, he won gold in the inter-county championship. Andrew also speaks four languages.
Barbara studied dentistry at Silesia Medical Academy, Katowice in Poland and graduated in 2001. She has been working in Scotland since 2005 in both NHS and private practice. She worked at Visioncall Dental Practice (later to become Cowgate Dental Surgery) in Kirkintilloch from 2009 till 2014. She studied with Professor Paul Tipton in Manchester (2014-2015) to gain the Postgraduate Certificate in Restorative Dentistry. She is a member of British Academy of Restorative Dentistry. She is also qualified in cosmetic orthodontics. In her free time she enjoys swimming and long walks with her daughters.
Kharla studied at the University of Sheffield, qualifying with distinction from the School of Clinical Dentistry in 2010. She also received a prize for excellence in continuing care. She enjoys all aspects of dentistry, providing a high level of care for her patients. She takes care of everything from white fillings and stain removal treatments to help you achieve the happy, healthy mouth you deserve and maintain a high level of oral hygiene. Kharla has been with Cowgate Dentistry since 2010, growing with the practice and playing a key role in its development. Outside of the surgery, Kharla enjoys relaxing with her friends and family, travelling and enjoying walks with her dog on Sunday afternoons.
Sarah Jane has been in the dental industry since 2003. She studied for a degree in BSc Oral Health Science at Glasgow Caledonian University, and qualified with distinction as a dental therapist. In addition to the course, she completed a year’s vocational training. Sarah Jane has experience in cosmetic dentistry as well as being experienced in routine dentistry and is qualified to perform anti-wrinkle treatments, fillers and teeth whitening. She’s great with nervous patient and loves kids. When not in the surgery, Sarah Jane enjoys to travel, read, listen to music and learn languages.
Elaine’s been with the team since the beginning, when the practice opened in 2009. Elaine started as a dental nurse, and through her excellent team-leading abilities and entrepreneurial skills was promoted to practice manager at the beginning of 2012. She’s got a wealth of knowledge when it comes to running a dental practice and is excited to bring the best new services to Cowgate Dentistry’s patients. Elaine took the IHM management course, passing it and further developing her skill as a manager.
Lee-Anne works with Andrew full-time in the surgery, supporting him in patient care. She’s been with the practice since 2010 and in addition to being a great dental nurse is a qualified first aider. Lee-Anne also loves dogs – pugs are her favourite.
Fiona is one of the newest members of the Cowgate Dental Surgery team, joining us in 2011. She supports our dental therapists in treating patients and makes a great team with them. Fiona provides a great level of support to the practice. Fiona studied for a course in dental and medical reception skills and passed her SCQF level 6.
